Story

Dee to the Sea is a 31.5km fundraising walk from Banchory along the Deeside Way into Aberdeen, and through Torry to the finish line at the Greyhope Bay Centre in Torry Battery on 12th April 2025.

By donating to this fundraising campaign, or any of the fundraising pages set up by participants, you are donating to support people taking on this challenge and generously giving their time to take part in Dee to the Sea to complete this feat!

Donate to help us continue offering our community programme which brings people together, teaches them about the environment, and encourages positive change locally.

The Greyhope Bay Centre opened in 2022, as a completely off-grid centre and café based at Torry Battery, Aberdeen - one of the best places in the UK to see bottlenose dolphins. We aim to create engaging programming which helps people connect with each other, while learning about local heritage and nature.

Our community programme offers a range of activities for people to get involved with, including:

• Greyhope Mornings – free talks with a guest speaker covering topics related to cultural and natural heritage, including dolphin research, maritime tattooing, archaeology, and more.

• Guided nature walks to help people learn about and connect with the local area.

• Creative classes which encourage people to try new skills while being inspired by the beautiful coastline of Aberdeen, such as watercolour, pottery, or crafting with natural items.

• Coastal discovery sessions which take people onto our local beach to learn more about the amazing creatures which call our coastline home.

• Co-creation sessions which encourage the people to come together and make positive local change relating to biodiversity, circularity, and clean energy.

We know that our programme offers more than learning about a topic or a trying out a new skill; it also helps people make friends, find community, and feel happier.

A study we conducted with researchers from Robert Gordon University in 2024 found that:

• 98% of respondents said visiting Greyhope Bay enhanced their happiness.

• 93% of respondents said visiting Greyhope Bay reduces stress and anxiety.

• 75% of respondents said visiting Greyhope Bay reduced feelings of loneliness.

• 73% of respondents said visiting Greyhope Bay enhanced their feelings of belonging.

It’s a calming, inviting community space where you can relax, meet friends, take part in events and enjoy the space to watch the dolphins and the harbour traffic.

- Well-being survey participant.

We’re raising funds so that we can continue running our community programme to keep providing these opportunities and benefits to people who visit Greyhope Bay. Any donation makes a difference towards meeting our goal and being able to continue our community programming.
