Story
The Dayton YMCA at Gaviidae is committed to downtown Minneapolis and the surrounding community and we demonstrate that work each and every day through our support of the individuals and families who live here.
This commitment calls on us to be responsive to the changing needs of our community. In 2020, when students in Minneapolis were not able to physically attend school, we opened our doors and provided a safe space with caring and nurturing adults to guide and support students while they attended classes virtually. Moreover, we completed over 3,000 calls to seniors to check-in on them to ensure that their social determinants of health are being met.
In the face of the pandemic, The Dayton YMCA at Gaviidae provided normalcy and a sense of routine during an otherwise uncertain time. We pivoted to deliver nearly 10,000 hours of fitness through 365 classes per month virtually. In addition, at the Dayton YMCA at Gaviidae we have continued to provide in person cycling, yoga and other group fitness classes while concurrently offering virtual opportunities for those who were not yet ready to take classes in person. We keep members safe by keeping fitness equipment properly spaced along with thorough cleaning and disinfecting throughout the facility.
These are just the latest examples of how we continue to innovate.
The Dayton YMCA at Gaviidae is home to our one-of-a-kind UnitedHealth Group Equity Innovation Center. Here we provided over 20,000 hours of diversity, equity and inclusion trainings that impacted over 4,000 individuals, not only locally, but across the nation. This center accelerates change and promotes further learning and understanding from both an individual and a system perspective.
We also strive to put whole-person, integrative lifestyle care at the frontline of health and wellbeing and make it personalized and accessible to all through our George Wellbeing Center.
