Story
Six-year-old Devin held firmly to his fathers hand as they left their hotel room with clothes and blankets. He had never slept in a car before and was frightened. Where are we going?, Devin asked. Mr. Wright didnt have an answer, but he was determined to keep his son safe and healthy.
After getting laid off from his job, Mr. Wright had no income to continue paying for the hotel they lived in. The little income he received from Door Dashing was not enough to afford an apartment, and most of the money was used for gas and ice to keep his sons medications cold. (Devin had complex medical issues that required daily medication, which had to stay refrigerated.) Mr. Wright made their Door Dash adventures fun for his son, but he knew this was unsustainable and not healthy for Devin.
Mr. Wright knocked on several doors, seeking help, but was turned away due to lack of resources for single fathers. He was losing hope. Once the Dawning Family Services team learned about this single father's journey they quickly stepped into action providing Emergency Bridge Housing. Within three months Mr. Wright and Devin were in permanent housing. Father and son are doing well, and Devin is enjoying his new teachers.
Your donations for Dusk til Dawn will help Dawning Family Services continue providing housing and support to our community's most vulnerable families touched by homelessness. In the last two years, family homelessness in Hillsborough County has increased by 20%. Every night in Florida over 6,000 families face homelessness. Without Dawning Family Services, what would have happened to Mr. Wright and Devin?
Thank you for helping us provide a safe place to sleep, safe housing, and hope for a brighter future.
