COVID-19 Special Update: Our Response

Resulting from COVID-19, there will be a few updates to The Felix Organizations operations.

As you know, The CDC and DOH are limiting gatherings of over 50 people in order to flatten the curve and reduce further spread of the illness. As a result, we have to postpone Dance This Way to a date TBD.

Some good news: As of now, we are planning for Camp Felix to be in operation this summer. This summer, kids will need camp more than ever! We hope that the country will be back in gear by then, so we are proceeding with our camp planning.

Dance This Way is postponed but our cause is not! What can we do now?

Because our mission to support youth in foster care is always at the forefront of what we do, effective immediately we will be creating The Felix Emergency Relief Fund for our children and families impacted by COVID-19. So far, weve been asked for funds for several food-insecure families, art supplies for girls in one of the group homes and laptops for youth to continue their educations.

Toward this end, we are keeping the Dance This Way campaign online, and funds will support Camp Felix as well as our emergency relief fund. If you already have a Dance This Way fundraiser, please continue to reach out to your network -funds will go to The Felix Emergency Relief Fund as well as Camp Felix.

On May 18th, The Felix Organization will celebrate fourteen years of enriching the lives of foster youth. Dance This Way, an annual dance party and fundraiser during National Foster Care Month, will be held at Rumi Event Space (229 W. 28th Street, NYC) from 6-10pm.

The evening will be hosted by Donnie Kehr of Broadways Jersey Boys and The Whos Tommy, and will include live performances and DJ Dina Regine spinning the hits all night. Keeping with tradition, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels will get the crowd on their feet and perform some of Run DMCs iconic hits.

Darryl McDaniels along with Sheila Jaffe, best known for her work in The Sopranos, co-founded The Felix Organization with a mission to enrich the lives of children growing up in the foster care system. McDaniels and Jaffe, both adopted, were introduced in 2006 and what resulted, according to Jaffe, were the most meaningful roles of both their careers.

The Felix Organization has raised over $5 million since its inception while serving over 8,000 youth in the foster care community. Their flagship overnight camp, Camp Felix has proven so successful they now fund two more in the tri-state area that focus on older youth in foster care who are statistically most at-risk. There is also Camp Felix West in LA since 2011 and plans for an LGBTQ+ camp for foster youth in partnership with The Fresh Air Fund in 2020.
