Story
We want to change the way that people think about learning disability. Instead of focusing on disability, we encourage people to see the skills and talents that people with learning disabilities have.
Our Dance Leaders with learning disabilities love to go to local festivals, community groups and performance events, and we always get an amazing reception when people realise the power of inclusive dance!
In 2021-22 we attended live and virtual events and saw over 4500 people. In audience feedback surveys:
- 100% of people who saw a DanceSyndrome performance would like to see us perform again
- 92% had a "very positive" view of disabled people after our performance
Community outreach work like this is an essential way of sharing the message that "everybody can dance" and that people with learning disabilities can be respected leaders, in dance, the community and in business.
There are lots of opportunities for us, but we're currently in a position where we do not have major funding to support our work, so we have to turn down a lot of activities.
Your donation will ensure that the people we support can stay connected, stay involved and stay healthy, in addition to changing the way that people think about living life with a learning disability.
