Story

Dame Vera Lynn was a figure of hope and resilience during World War II. Her celebrity and achievements endured long after the war years and she appeared on radio and television in the UK and United States. In 2009, she became the oldest artist to score a UK Number 1 album, aged 92, with her greatest hits collection Well Meet Again The Very Best Of. She was also passionate about her charity work, founding a cerebral palsy charity in 1953 and a breast cancer charity in 1976. In 2000 was named the Briton who best exemplified the spirit of the 20th century but was probably held in the highest esteem by the veterans she had entertained during the Second World War.

About the charity

Our aim is to raise funds for a memorial to Dame Vera Lynn. Renowned sculptor, Paul Day, whose work includes the Battle of Britain Memorial, will design and create the memorial.
