Story
Dementia Adventure is challenging you to take on DA85 in 2022 by walking, running, cycling or swimming 85 miles in support of people living with dementia. Where every mile you complete represents 10,000 of the 850,000 people living with the condition in the UK.
Until a cure is found we need better ways of living with this condition. Dementia Adventure believes, with the right support, people living with dementia can continue to enjoy outdoor activities, keep active and retain a sense of adventure in their lives. We have trained thousands of individuals to think differently about dementia and enabled hundreds to enjoy a supported holiday, short break or outing - making a huge difference to the health and wellbeing of people with dementia and their families.
Help us make an even bigger difference by signing up and going the full DA85 distance! You can complete the DA85 your way, in any length of time (days, weeks, months), so long as you cross the finish line before 31st December 2022. Set your own timeframe that challenges your own ability or fits around your lifestyle and personal goals.
Research shows that there are enormous benefits for anyone who gets outdoors and connects with nature. This is even more true of people with dementia, who can experience:
* Improved physical health: skin health, fitness, sleeping patterns, eating patterns; improved verbal expression; improved memory and attention.
* Improved emotional health: lifted moods, reduced stress, agitation, anger, apathy and depression.
* Improved social health: multi-sensory engagement and joy; improved sense of well-being, independence, self-esteem and control and improved social interaction and a sense of belonging.
Our work aims to remove barriers and increase the opportunities for many more people with dementia to access the wellbeing benefits of nature.
Sign-Up to DA85, encourage your friends and family to take part or donate too, and help us to raise awareness and support more people living with dementia. Thank you.
