Sports Connections Foundation is a local children's charity that uses sport to transform, inspire and bring hope to the lives of children who are disadvantaged, vulnerable or facing life limiting illnesses.
Each year we team up with David Lloyd health club in Cambridge to run a fun event to raise money for Sporting Wishes.
A Sporting Wish enables deserving children to attend their favourite sporting events VIP style, or meet their sporting heroes in order to give them and their families something to look forward to and a well needed boost. Our aim is to give the children a memorable day and put a smile back on their faces. On average it costs around £1500 to fund each wish. These Sporting Wishes really do make dreams come true for some very brave children.
On Sunday 18th August 2019 join us in a team effort as we aim to clock up 1500 miles on spin bikes (CYCLE), and curve treadmills (DASH) as we attempt to turn miles in to pounds. There is also an in house tennis tournament taking place indoors at the same time (SMASH).
Over the past 3 years the event has raised over £35,000 and funded over 30 wishes. Our target this year is to raise £15,000 with your help.
You can join in with some miles, or you can come and support others whilst enjoying the other entertainment on offer during the day. If you take part you can do as few or as many miles as you like - every mile helps. For the competitive people there are yellow jerseys for anyone who clocks up a total of 50 miles and we even have 4 people aiming to cycle 150 miles each to raise money for the cause.
The day isn't just about raising money. It's also about raising awareness of the charity - SPORTS CONNECTIONS FOUNDATION, so spread the word and invite your friends and family. More the merrier.
On the day current and ex professional sports personalities will be joining us such as Liam ONeil of Cambridge United and Ex Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn, and you will also have the chance to meet some of the amazing children and their families.
In addition to the challenge there is also plenty going on for guests of all ages. For the children there's face painting, inflatable assault courses, an indoor giant drum set, archery and street dance lessons; and for the adults there's foot darts, a LIVE PA from Kyla Reid (who recently had a number one hit in 130 countries world-wide as she collaborated with Drake on their hit One dance), and an acoustic performance from locally based singer Shean Williams who recently performed with Craid David on his UK Tour and at Glastonbury, an auction, various stalls, the sports bar is open all day along with an outdoor a BBQ by the pool, and Jamie Segrave the magician will also be dropping all of his latest mind-blowing tricks.
