About Beit CURE International Malawi
Beit CURE International Hospital of Malawi is a 58-bed Christian Mission hospital that specialises in treating the orthopaedic needs of children and adults. The facility was opened in 2002 and serves children with physical disabilities regardless of their ethnic background or religious affiliation.
As well as being a teaching hospital, Beit CURE International Malawi also has special expertise in total hip and knee replacement surgery, making it one of the few places where this surgery is available in Sub-Saharan Africa. The hospital treats a wide range of orthopaedic conditions including clubfoot, burn contractures, osteomyelitis, and other acquired or congenital conditions. In addition, CURE Malawi also provides physiotherapy services.
The Beit Trust, a UK-based charity, provided support for the construction of the hospital as a gift to the people of Malawi. Thanks to its ability to meet a wide variety of needs for both children and adults, CURE Malawi is a unique and valuable asset to Sub-Saharan Africa.

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on Beit CURE International Malawi
As we battle the various issues of providing safe and timely care here in the UK during this COVID-19 pandemic, you may have wondered how things are and will be at Beit CURE International Malawi? We are sad to have to report to you the particular and acute challenges faced by the hospital. They have continued serving children with operations up to this point, but have incurred excessive costs to purchase extra Personal Protective Equipment for staff, children and guardians. Inevitably the private services have collapsed and suddenly provide almost no income at all. Additionally, some of the donor giving from businesses in USA has been reduced.
All in all there has been a precipitous fall in income which was totally unforeseen only 3 months ago. The fate of the hospital over the next few months is precarious.
We have been in discussions with the hospital to ascertain whether it can keep going during this acute crisis, and enabled to build again as the COVID-19 pandemic eases. The business model of the hospital has been modified and includes salary cuts for all staff and a few retrenchments, as well as other major cost cutting measures.
We need your help.
If we can take this opportunity for generous and sacrificial giving and help fill the acute shortfall, then the CURE leadership are confident that the hospital can be saved and built up again.
