Story

Cultivating Mindfulness is passionate about giving young people the education they need to understand their own mind better. We aim to help them develop an increase in self awareness, awareness of others, self-compassion, emotional regulation and resilience to improve wellbeing and move through life with greater ease.

Half of all mental health problems in adulthood begin before the age of 14. Young people are increasingly experiencing emotional and psychological health problems. We believe every young person should have early access to this training including those in need or at a disadvantage.

Cultivating Mindfulness aims to make mindfulness based courses accessible to every young person who may benefit in the community at no cost to parents regardless of their circumstances because we passionately believe this vital educational training should not be dependent upon cost .

We aim to do this by fundraising throughout the year to help us meet our course costs which include venue hire, insurance, refreshments and snacks, training costs and materials, marketing/website and legal fees.

We want to see every young person provided with earlier and alternative intervention support that is suffering with stress, anxiety, depression and distraction that is causing an inability to focus, concentrate, be present and happy, to gain the vital knowledge they need to learn new ways of keeping their mind in good shape and to live a healthier and happier life that will help them and our communities to flourish.

We want to offer our Young People's Mindfulness Programme throughout the year with the help of donations. The programme will include an eight week training course for three specific age groups to make them more relevant and enjoyable for the young people attending for ages 12-15 years, 16-18 years and 19-21 years. The course will provide each young person with additional training resources to enhance the learning experience at home between weekly classes.

Parents will also be required to attend a Course Introduction evening to register their child after learning more about the course curriculum, practices, home resources and potential wellbeing outcomes. Working closely with parents/carers throughout the course as a direct result of fully participating and being supported by family at home as well as during the classes themselves will enhance each young person's learning experience resulting in real life skills for longer term benefits and meaningful change.

Mindfulness and meditation has been successfully shown to improve mental wellness and their is a growing body of research available. We have been successfully delivering this course in a college setting with significant increase in positive wellbeing results for eighteen months to students of all ages.

Thank you for supporting our Young People's Mindfulness Programme and helping us to increase our services to reach more young people within our communities who need access to vital training that would benefit them now and that they can carry into adulthood for a happier and healthier life.
