Story
Paines Plough is the national theatre of new plays. We discover the very best new talent and help them develop their craft. Then we produce their plays on tour the length and breadth of the UK and around the world. Click here for more information about the work that we do.
In partnership with theatres across the UK, we have already commissioned 30+ new short plays from writers about the places they call home and their relationship to home at this time. These will be shared with you as visual-audio pieces and then performed at our partner venues when they reopen.
These self-filmed pieces will be available on our YouTube channel with a request for donations.
All donations made to this project will go directly towards employing writers to deliver more excellent new writing during the current COVID-19 outbreak.
Our brilliant partner theatres on this project include Derby Theatre, Eastern Angles, Open Clasp Theatre Company Newcastle, Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Reading Rep Theatre, Sheffield Theatres and Theatre by the Lake Keswick.
Here are some suggested donation amounts, and what your donation will provide:
£5 pays for a notepad and a pen for a writer to dream up their idea
£10 pays for a writer to start putting pen to paper
£20 covers some simple home recording equipment for a writer to record their piece
£50 pays for a writer to really start to explore and develop their story
£125 pays for one half of a writer's commission to write a COME TO WHERE I AM piece
£250 will commission a writer to write a full COME TO WHERE I AM piece
£300 will pay for a live COME TO WHERE I AM event to be BSL interpreted
Please consider donating generously to this cause. Theatres and writers need your support.
