Story
Celebrating 50 years
In 1974, Ripon College and St John’s College in York faced a dilemma: how could they survive with a planned reduction in teacher training places? By the end of the year, their plan to reunify as the College of Ripon and York St John (CRYSJ) finally received government approval.
When CRYSJ opened its doors in Ripon and York in September 1975, they couldn’t have imagined that generations of students would study under the same College basis. Over the years, the name of the College might have slightly changed, but CRYSJ remained at its core until the closure of our Ripon campus in 2001.
CRYSJ Prize
The 2024/5 academic year marks 50 years since the process of amalgamation began, and just like 50 years ago, we want to set something up to be remembered!
Studying with us changed your life. That’s why we wanted to mark the 50th anniversary of CRYSJ by rewarding current students as well.
At Graduation, students receive Prizes. These are often for academic achievement, but we know that life at York St John isn’t just about grades. We want to reward 50 students who are:
- Community-driven,
- Resilient and
- Supportive of others during their educational
- Journey.
You might have noticed that the Y in this acronym is missing, and that’s because this will only be possible with Your help.
Help us reach our target
To award £50 to 50 students, we need to raise £2500 by August 2025.
Prize winners will receive their prize at their Graduation Ceremony in 2025. Your donation will provide our graduates a helping hand on the first step of their journey as they become YSJ Alumni.
The money will be split evenly between the students, so the more money raised, the bigger their prize will be!
