Story
When Russia first invaded in February, Crown Agents International Development (CAID) launched an outreach effort to raise funds to support the Ukrainian people. Crown Agents has a 25-year-old history of working in Ukraine, including partnering with the Ukraine Ministry of Health on the procurement and distribution of essential medicines. As such, we are uniquely placed to understand the health needs and infrastructure on the ground, which means we can provide live-saving support for those Ukrainians who remained in Ukraine.
Our teams have so far procured and delivered a range of urgently required goods for Ukraine, including mOm premature baby incubators, Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs), oxygen concentrators, bedside patient monitors, generators, food packages, medication and other essentials.
To assist with basic health services we’re continuing to rehabilitate health facilities targeted by Russia. We’re deploying a ‘Build Back Better’ approach using sustainable, energy-efficient methods. So far we have rehabilitated over 50.
When the end of the war arrives, the recovery effort will be historic. Crown Agents are a trusted partner able to manage multiple funds and employ local organisations that have been vetted to rigorous standards. We hold ourselves - and partners - to account through transparent processes such as citizen-led monitoring.
How can you support in Ukraine’s recovery?
Our targets are to
1. Continue delivering urgently needed humanitarian items and medical devices, including premature baby incubators
2. Equipping hospitals and training doctors in prosthetics
3. Providing mental health and psycho-social support, particularly focusing on women and children
4. And rolling out on a vast scale our unique, socially conscious approach to reconstruction, including rehabilitating 300 health facilities in the next 2 years.
mOm incubators are the inventors of the latest state of the art premature baby incubator which can be easily transported and operated in shelters in conflict zones such as Ukraine. So far, Crown Agents has shipped almost 100 mOm incubators into Ukraine, making an impact on over 1,500 lives, with requests for more devices from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Crown Agents is a global leader in the humanitarian space with decades of experience responding in the face of conflict. We have delivered assistance in contexts such as the 2015 earthquake in Nepal and the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone and supported a variety of national health systems to tackle the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have made it our mission to ensure essential support reaches the people who need them most in the quickest time possible and take on any challenge to help the most vulnerable.
