Story
A Story of Resilience and Renewal
Twelve years ago, Leithers reclaimed a forgotten patch of common good land and transformed it into something extraordinary: Leith Community Croft. What was once wasteland is now a thriving green space where food grows, friendships flourish, and children learn skills for life. It’s a place of hope, resilience, and community.
Over the years, the Croft has faced its share of challenges - economic turbulence which affects funding for grassroot organisations, harsh weather, vandalism and the complexities of running a community Charity charting a route for common good.
So, we’re doing what this community does best: coming together!
Through every problem we’ve faced, one thing has remained constant: we all love the Croft. In a world of broken food systems and widening inequality, spaces like this are lifelines. They teach us about nature, nurture our wellbeing, and bring people together when so much else pulls us apart.
Croftathon is about weaving a circle of love around the Croft - giving it the breathing space it needs to stabilise and emerge stronger in 2026.
We're ready to act and we need your help to make it happen. Croftathon is our rallying cry: an endurance run celebration inspired by Forest Gump, with a mix of the legendary Backyard Ultras and Barkley Marathons. Every lap of the croft run, walked, or wheeled adds strength to this much-adored space and helps us prepare for a vibrant spring relaunch.
The idea is simple: every lap around the Croft adds another layer of protection.
- Wheelchair laps encouraged
- Fancy dress encouraged
- Relay teams encouraged
- One lap is enough to be part of it!
Our collective community goal? 4,536 laps one for everyday Earth in Common has existed.
Every lap is a statement. Every step says: this place matters!!
Our goal is £10,000. Every pound will help us:
✅ Protect and nurture the Croft
✅ Relaunch our services
✅ Support the dedicated team who make all this possible
