Story
Right now, thousands of people at the sharp end of poverty are at risk of being pushed into homelessness. The cost of living crisis is forcing many into making unthinkable choices between eating, heating or keeping a roof over their head. Standing with people to show we care has never been more urgent.
Every year Crisis at Christmas opens its doors to people facing homeless, offering much needed warmth, healthcare, food and company. For many, its the start of specialist support that lasts all year round, enabling them to leave homelessness behind for good.
Every £29.07 you raise could give someone a Crisis Christmas.
Your fundraising could help someone like Andrei. Andrei was happily settled in London, working in warehouses on short-term contracts. When COVID hit, businesses reduced staff numbers and Andrei couldnt get a new contract. Without an income, he couldnt pay his rent, and eventually his live-in landlord locked him out. Andrei slept on a friends sofa before being forced onto the streets. He felt very scared.
From the moment you put your head down and fall asleep, you cant control anything around you.
He contacted Crisis and was given a Coach, who got him a place in a Crisis at Christmas hotel.
Lorna is my guardian angel. She was with me from the beginning. She was there for me every time, every day I needed help.
Lorna supported Andrei to claim Universal Credit and find longer-term accommodation when he left the hotel.
All that pressure, all that weight was gone. And now I can focus on my next steps.
