Story

Update: THANK YOU! To every single one of you that has donated so far. Your generosity and kindness is helping us help our community in so many ways. Your donations quite literally lessen the amount of people waking up worried about where their next meal will come from. With your continued support, we will continue to make a difference.

Who are we?

Good question! Wed love to tell you more about what we do. Compliments of The House is an entirely volunteer-led registered charity based in Brixton. We collect fresh, surplus food and redistribute to hundreds of those in-need within the community.

Since launching 18 months ago, we have been supported with the personal savings of our founder, Sinead, and the unbelievable generosity of local restaurants donating their surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.

Due to COVID-19, we have taken the difficult but necessary measures to minimise the risk of infection to our guests - many of whom have weakened and compromised immune systems - by temporarily closing our food re-distribution hub In Brixton. It was a difficult decision, but it feel it is what is best for our guests in the long run to limit their exposure to the virus.

Despite this, we're more determined than ever to keep on helping those that need it and to combat the social-economic effects of COVID-19, which have hugely escalated the already intense issues of food hunger, social-isolation and our guests' ability to pay their rent and other household bills. Before we closed, we collected the names and numbers of our most vulnerable guests as we knew we would have to come up with a solution to get food to them.

How is COVID-19 effecting our communities most- vulnerable?

With the disruption of community services and the added increase of mass panic buying - not only of staple foods but of basic sanitary products - this pandemic has left many of our guests with absolutely nothing.

Having the ability to have a cupboard full of food, let alone stock-pile, is a luxury that our guests do not have; they are on limited incomes and for those trying to survive on benefits, the choice between buying a weekly shop and paying household bills is one they have to make too often.

How will your donation help?

Our Brixton hub may be temporarily closed, but we're determined to continue helping each and every one of our usual CoTH guests. With your help, we can:

Support hundreds of the most vulnerable people in our community

Create bi-weekly emergency supply and food packages

Source transportation to make the all important deliveries

Support with utilities gas and other crucial household bills

Continue with our purpose to nourish people through food!

£40 will help provide emergency support and food for someone in-need for two weeks. Each and every donation, however small, will help us achieve this

Compliments of The House will continue to support our guests in whatever way we can - and we can only do this with YOUR generous support. Thank you.
