Story
Welcome to my very first Charity Golf Scramble!
I am so proud to be an Ambassador for Corrymeela, a place I have been coming to with pals and family for over 25 years!
It is Northern Ireland’s oldest peace and reconciliation organisation, located outside Ballycastle. A special place overlooking Rathlin Island. It has been shining a light for peace for almost 60 years.
Every year Corrymeela supports thousands of people to explore difference and discover ways to live well together.
Corrymeela runs programmes aimed at establishing a shared society defined by tolerance in schools, families, communities.
I first came here with the Downs Syndrome Association but made friends with all sorts of people from all over the world.
It’s played such a big part in my story, in so many people’s stories.
In fact, I had my very first drama lesson at Corrymeela…who knew!
Corrymeela is a charity and like so many other good causes, needs our help to keep the centre open for thousands of people of all backgrounds, cultures, all faiths, or none.
By taking part, with Sponsorships and Golf Teams, Raffle donations, and all sorts, I hope together to raise over £12,000.
Every Four Ball booked, and Tee Box sponsored could change a life for the better and help communities to thrive, to better understand each other with respect and friendship.
Here’s what your support could deliver:
£3,000 raised could pay for a 2-night residential for 20 young people from a marginalised community…giving hope, providing safety and opportunity.
£185.00 could pay for an action-packed programme for kids who don’t usually meet one another.
£50.00 could pay for a retreat for a local peacebuilder to renew their energy and vision.
£10.00 could provide a heartwarming meal for a person on a low income.
£3.00 could provide hot chocolate and toast round the fire to warm relationships.
Every penny could change a life…how amazing is that!
Have a chat with my good friend Catherine to sponsor a hole, book a team in, donate a prize…she looks after all that for me!
Contact Catherine on catherineohara@corrymela.org OR call her on 07515063303.
Thank you and safe driving!
*James, of course, made Oscar history as the first actor with Downs Syndrome to star in an Academy award winning film, 'An Irish Goodbye' - which won Best Live Action Short Film.
In 2024 James was given an honorary Doctorate from Ulster University and awarded an MBE.
