Story
Community meals at Room to Heal
We are a therapeutic community of people from all over the world who have survived torture and human rights abuses. Every week, our members meet and participate in therapeutic groups, cooking and gardening. We also run retreats outside of London. Alongside this, we provide practical help, supporting members to access suitable accommodation, healthcare, and legal support to help them face the significant challenges of the UK's asylum process.
When people come to Room to Heal, they become members of a supportive community and, through this, they begin to feel safe, regain trust, and find new meaning in their lives. One of our members who has recently joined Room to Heal explains how he felt when he joined:
Room to Heal was placed in my path when pretty much everything for me went on blackout mode, and I can't really see the switch. Then a hand raised in all this bleakness and lit a dim bulb... and pull a curtain so a fresh light sneaks through my window again.
