#ConnectUsToo - Raising awareness & understanding about mental health & wellbeing and deafness.

Derek Todd is fundraising to highlight the need for a Scottish Deaf CAMHS. He will be doing a variety of activities - walk, run and cycle - minimum 50km a week for 8 weeks from now until the end of June! A total of 400km over 55 days!

It helps and supports families with deaf children. It provides specially trained support workers to help families. It organises social events through the year including summer trips and Christmas Parties to allow families to get together and support each other.

Story

Derek Todd: "I'm collaborating with WSDCS and deafscotland to campaign for:

1. Raising awareness and understanding about mental health and wellbeing and deafness.

2.Children & young people who are deaf or have a hearing loss can be an isolated group in our society - it is harder for them to make friends & to access activities that their hearing peers take for granted. This can put them at greater risk of experiencing mental ill health.

3. Improve resilience and recognition of issues - better early intervention and prevention approach/diagnosis.

4. Scotland has no Deaf CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental health Service) support available for children and young people who are deaf or have a hearing loss. There's a Deaf CAMHS in every region of England.

5. Increase access to treatment, information, mainstream mental health services and/or specialist services for all deaf people in Scotland - both online and offline.

6. Better access to Mental Health First Aid training and support for everyone in Scotland.

What am I doing? I'll be doing a variety of activities - walk, run or cycle - minimum 50km a week for 8 weeks to Sunday 27 June 2021! Yes a total of 400km through 55 days! It's time to connect us together!

My target is £3850. Why? - There's around 3850 children & young people in Scotland who are deaf or have a hearing loss, so £1.00 for every child. And if the target is beat, then I will have my hair cut and beard cut too! Please support me beating the target! I'm called Caveman Dellboy these days!! I look terrible don't I? Haha! More money raised, the better, for Scotland to be the best place to live, learn, work and visit! Inclusive communication is the way forward! Equality for all!

Engagement: Connect, communicate and collaborate with organisations and groups involved or have an interest in mental health and wellbeing and deafness to ensure we have the best available resources for all deaf people in Scotland.

If you could please help us show support! Every penny you give will mean we're one step closer to improving the lives of deaf people. Oh, most importantly, please do click on the Gift Aid, which makes a huge difference too. Thank you!"
