Story
Collateral Global is a UK-based charity (No. 1195125) dedicated to researching, understanding, and communicating the global impacts of policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. We know these measures have disproportionately affected the poor, the young and the elderly; we need to know by how much.
This is a massive task, and covers three main questions: were the assumptions under which policy responses were implemented valid; were they effective, and what has been the collateral effect across the world? Together these questions will help us understand the cost-benefit of these measures, and help inform future policy decisions: this for our future generations.
We are reaching out to the public and educational charities to help us fund this investigation, which will take several years. To date, much of the research we have undertaken has been pro bono, but in order to do the work properly, and forensically assess the data, we need to employ and commission academics and specialists across the world. This takes significant funding.
We also believe that Collateral Global needs to be independent. This means that Collateral Global requires its own funding plan, which is why we have launched this crowdfunding campaign, which will run alongside donations from supporting charities.
We have, since the beginning, received enormous support and encouragement from individual donors. Many of us are frustrated by not knowing what to do to make sure that these questions are addressed, given that it is not in the interests of those mandating responses to do so.
Donating to Collateral Global is one way you can help, and any amount will a difference not only in enabling us to pay for the research but in adding weight to your voice: each donation tells the world that this work needs to be done.
