Extreme Heat Hurts Homeless and Vulnerable Neighbors the Most
Here in Maricopa County, the summer sun can be dangerous even deadly for our vulnerable neighbors. That's why, when temperatures top 100 degrees, Phoenix Rescue Mission declares a Code:Red on the streets.
Last year in Arizona, 196 of our neighbors died from heat -related illness. The danger disproportionately targets Maricopa County's most vulnerable populations: seniors, those with disabilities, and homeless people. This summer our vulnerable neighbors already face heightened health risks due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Our goal is to raise 315,000 bottles of water this summer. With your help, we can provide cool, refreshing water to homeless and vulnerable neighbors all summer long.
