Hydrotherapy for children and adults with disabilities
Hundreds of children and adults with disabilities in Enable Ireland's Dublin Service benefit from hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy pools are kept at a higher temperature to regular pools like a warm bath. The warm water allows muscles to relax and be moved more easily. Physiotherapy in this environment is highly effective. Hydrotherapy pools enable children with limited mobility the chance to experience freedom of movement that they would not have outside of the water.
In 2019, Enable Ireland started an ambitious refurbishment of their hydrotherapy pool and changing rooms in Sandymount, which will enable them to support more children with disabilities and hold more therapy sessions. Enable Ireland now needs to raise funding in order to complete this project and ensure that children and adults with disabilities can access the pool with safety and dignity. The pool is also a community asset as local children and families benefit from swimming classes. The pool is particularly suitable for young babies and those with health-related issues.
Throughout 2021, the team in CNP Santander are raising money to support this vital project.
