Story

The cycling sportive Velo Birmingham & Midlands has been confirmed for Sunday May 12th 2019 with a brand new 100-mile closed-road route. The event, formerly known as Velo Birmingham, first took place in 2017 and 600 cyclists took part representing Cure Leukaemia.

Next year, the event takes place on International Nurses Day, a fitting day for funds to be raised for Cure Leukaemia to ensure specialist research nurses can continue to connect blood cancer patients with pioneering treatments.

Former England, Crystal Palace and Wolves footballer and blood cancer survivor Geoff Thomas said:

The inaugural Velo Birmingham was a wonderful event and I am very excited that it will return in May 2019. There are few more beautiful places to cycle than the Midlands and I would highly recommend this event to cyclists of all abilities. Fittingly, the 2019 event falls on International Nurses Day and every participant riding for Cure Leukaemia will be raising vital funds to ensure Cure Leukaemia's network of specialist research nurses can continue to connect blood cancer patients with potentially life-saving treatments across the UK. I will be taking part one again and I hope cyclists across the country will join me to ride a memorable 100 miles for a fantastic charity.
