Story
The climate crisis is NOT gender neutral.
As the impacts of climate change worsen, women and girls are experiencing unique harm. Existing gender inequalities are being amplified and women and girls face a disproportionate threat of displacement, poverty and violence.
But women and girls are also a powerful force in climate action.
As innovators in green energy, defenders of the environment and community leaders, women are at the forefront of the fight against climate change, leading prevention, mitigation and adaptation efforts around the world.
UN Women work with partners across the world to support and implement various programmes empowering women in the fight against climate change. From programmes teaching agricultural workers how to adapt their farming practices to increase crop yields to educational programmes for women in STEM and policy. You can find out more here.
This World Environment Day, join us as we take part in the UN Women UK #ClimateJusticeChallenge where we'll travel the circumference of the globe to raise awareness and funds for women at the frontlines of climate change.
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3...
1. Choose your mode of sustainable travel. You can walk, swim, wheel, run, dance. It's up to you!
2. Set up your team right here on Just Giving. This can be with work colleagues, friends or with family. You can sign up on your own too or why not join the UN Women UK Community Team!
3. Start raising awareness and funds. We've got all the tools to support you!
Together, we'll walk, wheel, run, dance, swim or any other form of sustainable movement from World Environment Day to COP28, the annual United Nations Conference on Climate Change bringing together world leaders to tackle climate change.
When we join all our distances up together, we'll have travelled the whole way around the earth to raise funds and awareness of the impact of climate change on women and girls, shine a light on their actions and innovations, and amplify their voices for climate justice.
