Story
Update as of September 2023
We're still fundraising to ensure that the fit out of the refurbished Clarence Hall maximises the facilities available for the Crickhowell community! More information on this below.
What's our project?
In the post lockdown environment, we're responding to our Community Survey by refurbishing this well-used community venue to ensure the Hall is able to host a full range of inclusive activities for individuals and groups of all ages.
What's involved?
Phase 1 of the refurbishment will include: a new and upgraded kitchen; new toilet facilities; new disability access toilets including a baby change area; a small bar; and an extension to the Hall to form a new accessible entrance with access from the A40 and car park.
Why are we doing this?
An essential part of this project is to make the building more accessible for people with disabilities, for older people and for parents using buggies and pushchairs. We are aware that the current lack of access and outdated facilities are impacting on the ability of a wide number of beneficiaries to attend and benefit from this community venue.
What support do we have?
Thanks to the Welsh Government, the National Lottery Community Fund and our very many local supporters, funding is now in place for refurbishment works to commence. The building programme to construct the new entrance/multi-function room began in December 2022, with Phase 1 as a whole expected to complete in early 2024.
Why are we still fundraising?
The impact of inflation over the past two years has had a particular effect on the cost of building materials. This has meant that our prices have increased significantly. In order to bring the building contract in line with the funding we've secured, we've had to cut back on the fit-out specification, particularly in relation to the kitchen and toilet facilities. We will still see significant improvements in the facilities, and our aim is to raise as much funding as we can over the next 6 months in order to reinstate some of the items we've had to remove.
