Story
Community Kitchen Glos gives out food to people in Gloucester at risk of food poverty, with a nutritious hot three-course meal.
We are a group of unpaid volunteers who had previously run a similar service that has moved out of the city centre. We banded together to make sure the 90 guests we feed continue to get the hot meals they really need.
We started serving meals back in December 2023, now we need your help in keeping the service running. Direct donations make up over 80% of our income and every penny helps keep the lights on the food flowing.
It costs us just under £2 to feed someone a balanced, hot three-course meal either sat in at our venue in Gloucester's city centre, or to take away.
Anything you can donate will be a huge help to the people in Gloucester who really need it.
We provide a hot meal, as the cost of energy can sometimes make foodbank donations challenging to turn into a meal. Without electricity or gas, that cold tin of baked beans will stay a cold tin of baked beans.
Our volunteer chefs cook up donated food every week, creating a vegetarian three-course meal that might look like soup for starter, mac and cheese for mains, and an apple crumble for dessert.
A £10 donation would help us feed five people a healthy and hearty meal.
A word from Jon, our chair:
We've gone from 30 guests a week to over 90! We see lots of people from all walks of life, families, pensioners and those who really need extra help.
We expect to churn out almost 13,000 portions of food over the next year. Every pound donated keeps the lights on and gives us a future.
We're looking to raise £2,500, enough to run our service for three months.
Every pound really helps and the whole team are super grateful for your support.
