Team CHSF x
You're a hero to children like Belle
Belle was diagnosed with congenital heart disease aged five months old, after she attended a routine hospital check-up for a heart murmur in Hull. It was then her family were told Belle had Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and without urgent surgery at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, Belle would only survive to her teenage years.
Thankfully the incredible team at Leeds were able to successfully operate on Belle, who has gone on to have a very good recovery and is back home with her family.
Being from Hull, Belle's family were particularly grateful for CHSF's Family Accommodation. Belle's mum, Natalie, said:
We were absolutely blown away as soon as we went onto the ward. We were told please don't book a hotel; we have accommodation here for you funded by CHSF. My Partner Jonny and I just burst into tears. The accommodation we had was lovely and allowed us to be so close to Belle while she was on PICU and High Dependency. It was such a relief knowing we were only a few minutes away if we needed to be with our daughter urgently. We had the accommodation for a total of six days which, as well as a bedroom, had a kitchen and laundry room if we needed it. The reason we decided to take part in the Superhero Walk last year is because we wanted to give something back to this amazing charity. We raised a total of £405 which could help families like us stay in the hospital accommodation for 14 days! We will be doing Superhero Walk again this year and we cant wait to meet and catch-up with all the families.
