Story
Christmas is coming and with it, all the festive traditions we cherish.
Getting the tree up early and filling it with twinkling lights. Wrapping up warm and going carolling. Chatting round the fire with friends.
One of the most-loved traditions we all love is when we sit down to share that special meal with families and friends. That's a tradition we share with families around the world. We all love good company and good food, especially at Christmas.
As one mum in Malawi, Fyness Tembo, says,
We cook chicken and rice. After eating I feel very happy and satisfied. I wish I could be eating rice every day.
But the pleasure of Christmas dinner is something that not all families in Malawi will share this year. Sadly, due to the climate crisis, many families in Malawi are struggling even to have their staple food of maize porridge.
The climate crisis has left food crops shrivelled by drought or drowned by floods. Many families in Malawi are struggling right now, and by Christmas they will have little or no food left at all.
Fyness knows what a Christmas with no food was like, but she is now able to feed her family and leave hunger behind.
I used to lack food, but now, with farming, I have food, and I am able to take care of my children. I am grateful.
Your Christmas gift could provide mums like Fyness with training that enables them to grow their own garden, and learn skills that will help them become more resilient to the climate crisis.
We invite you to reach out and share, so that more families can leave hunger behind. Whatever Christmas traditions you cherish and look forward to, make a gift of love one of your Christmas traditions this year. Please reach out and share the greatest tradition of all - love.
Give, act and pray with us this Christmas, because without gifts of love, it wouldnt be Christmas.
