Story
At Christmas we celebrate Emmanuel, the incarnation of love. A love that never fails. A love that unites. A love that builds hope.
This year youve shown incredible kindness to your neighbours near and far when coronavirus threatened. We have learned that together we can face a global crisis.
In Ethiopia, and around the world, people living in poverty are on the frontline of another kind of crisis - the climate crisis. Locusts are swarming, encouraged by the long droughts and heavy rains. Another crisis that we must tackle in solidarity with our global neighbours.
Neighbours like Kawite in Ethiopia are facing the devastating impact of climate crisis. As drought became more and more prolonged, Kawite and her family struggled to make ends meet. She and her daughters travelled five hours a day to get water and her children often missed school or went hungry.
Christian Aid and our local partner worked alongside Kawites community, supporting the village to build their own pond which now serves as a new and reliable water source. Because of this work and your generosity they once again can live well off their land.
The community pond saves Kawite hours of precious time which she can now spend at home with her family. Christian Aid's partner has supported her to put food on the table and build a better future for her family and her community.
The pond is not only for me, Kawite says, It has changed the life of this village.
This Christmas will your church help us support another community like Kawites village struggling on the frontline of the climate crisis?
