Could you Choose to Lose your bed?

Choose to lose your bed this October half-term to raise money and prayer for Christians around the world who are being forced to lose their beds – and their homes, schools, jobs, livelihoods and communities – simply because of their faith in Jesus.

Around the world courageous people are choosing to follow Jesus, knowing that in doing so, they will lose. Their choice might mean loss of family, friends, home, income and security. And for some there is a greater cost - the loss of freedom, or even their life.

In 2023, 278,716 Christians who were forced to flee they homes or go into hiding. In Nigeria, Christians are regularly leaving behind their communities due to violence and targeted attacks.

In choosing to lose our beds, something we all love, we can raise money and prayer to support those who are risking it all to keep following Jesus.

Why lose your bed? Nala's story...

Nala is from a strict Muslim family, so when she became a Christian and was secretly baptised after hearing about Jesus on Facebook, she knew she had to keep her new faith quiet.

Unfortunately, her family noticed changes in her behaviour and they became increasingly suspicious about what she was doing. Instead of talking to her about these changes, they set a trap for her, beating her and then locking her in a room for several weeks.

Despite all this, Nala refused to give up her faith and her family realised they couldn’t ‘fix’ her. So they changed tack, pledging her to be married to a local Muslim leader who already had two wives.

With no other options, just a few days before the wedding, amazingly Nala managed to run away, hiding with friends, who helped her to get out of Somalia.

Because of that choice to follow Jesus, Nala has lost her home, friends, family and even her country. Her life has changed completely, and yet, despite the dangers she lives with, she doesn’t regret choosing to follow Jesus.

“Jesus had changed me… I didn’t choose Him, but He chose me… Previously I didn’t have happiness, but now I have joy… I know that until I came to know Jesus, I knew nothing at all.”
