Chomp Needs Your Help
We've been supporting families facing food insecurity in Brighton & Hove for over 10 years. As more families are affected by the cost of living crisis, we need your help!!
Story
For more than 10 years, Chomp has been supporting families in Brighton & Hove facing food insecurity during school holidays. Coming to Chomp always involves sharing a delicious, nutritious meal; engaging in stimulating activities as a family; and crucially, being enveloped by supportive community.
Chomp is a lifeline to the families it helps, it’s not only about the food or activities. It’s a safe place for parents like myself to meet others and get advice, it’s a community that helps each other. Children with differences find friends and get opportunities to do things that they wouldn’t otherwise do.
Last year, we served 3,158 meals across Brighton & Hove, averaging 242 meals every week of the school holidays. We also run after school clubs, family days out and a growing list of empowering and holistic activities, such as wellbeing days, cookery workshops, a beginners running course, and DIY for women and girls.
But we need your help. At a time when the cost of living crisis is causing more and more families to struggle, funding shortages mean there's a big gap for us to still to close for our crucial work in 2024.
My daughter loves chomp - the people who work there, the place. Being autistic it’s hard finding somewhere she feels safe to be herself and Chomp is one of those places. During some holidays it’s the only time I speak to another adult. I feel that I can just be there with no obligation. It’s helped my self esteem as well.
