Story

Over the last 15 months Chomp has supported hundreds of low income families, with children entitled to free school meals, by providing over 1500 fruit, veg and grocery boxes, and giving out over 1000 supermarket vouchers. We've taken families out to Rock Farm to harvest fresh veggies, prepare, cook and eat healthy meals, make dens and play in nature, away from the city for the day.

We have run cookery workshops, wellbeing days, a women's beginners running course and funded barista training for those who have been out of the workplace for a long while. We've funded 428 fresh food boxes this year so far, via our partnership with Brighton Grub Hub. We've partnered with a local business in offering 50 disadvantaged kids funded sport coaching for a year. And, of course, we have been running our family Chomp lunch and activity clubs through the school holidays (Covid restrictions permitting).

This year however, our funders are increasingly stretched, and unfortunately, Chomp is facing a shortfall for our project running costs in 2022. With over 6,500 children entitled to free school meals in Brighton and Hove we have much to do in 2022 to contribute to the eradication of holiday hunger in our city. Both with immediate food help AND interventions to help families rise out of their situation. So we really need your help!

If you want to know how much to contribute £15 would be an awesome start! But every pounds helps. Thank you.

Here is what our Chomp families say about Chomp:

"Chomp was the best thing ever, I made two new friends, ate noodles for the first time and wrote a letter to my Nana on the craft table." D - age 7.

"Loved it, so nice to have positive male role models" A (mum)

"Absolutely amazing what you guys have done for us this last year. A massive thank you from me and the girls. And when this is done your getting huge hugs xx "

"Thank you for all you did to help us all out, it will never be forgotten, you're all amazing people and we appreciate everything you did xx "

"For me the Brighton Grub Hub (funded by Chomp) has been more than just a box of food every week, has to do with dignity, humanity and solidarity, thank you very much from my heart."

"You've been fabulous and made a big difference to the way we eat. I've always enjoyed the boxes, plus the regular chats at the door."

"I loved it!! Haven't felt this relaxed and happy in a looooong time and signing up for running is giving me a goal and focus. Was so nice being around other women who are all in similar situations and met some lovely new people today and was so nice coming away with the jars that we made as a lovely memory too. THANK YOU soooo much. Was amazing x - S following a Chomp women's wellbeing day

"We were able to buy fresh ingredients which we don't normally and have a big family meal altogether; normally me or mum have to just have snacks or toast if there isn't food for all of us. It was the best thing all easter holiday and couldn't have had that if I didn't receive a voucher". A MET student on receipt of a supermarket voucher:

"I began to see physical benefits but also my mental health, self-esteem and cognitive function improved. I am so grateful for the opportunity and can't thank you all at CHOMP for your work to help women take charge of their lives and make the positive change they need. It took a leaflet posted by Chomp to turn my life around" A - who completed the women's beginners running course.
