Story
Providing a mug of hot porridge for children as they come to school each morning improves attendance and punctuality, and helps with concentration as many come to school without eating. For many children poverty issues mean that they don't have enough exercise books, pens and other educational resources so they find learning very hard. This often means they fall behind and many eventually drop out of school.
In 2022, as well as continue to provide the feeding programme, we would also like to provide exercise books, pens and pencils, and other resources to improve the learning environment for the children. We would also like to provide uniform for the most vulnerable children. The total cost for each child will be £15.00.
For the last 6 years Hope4Malawi with Trinity School have partnered with Chipwepwete Primary School, a rural school in a very poor village, south of Blantyre in Southern Malawi, to help bring development. Beginning in 2015 with providing a kitchen and feeding programme, we have also funded 5 new classrooms and a fully resourced library. Last year we funded the building of a girls toilet block.
We also support teachers with provision of bicycles which has drastically reduced journey times to school from almost 2hrs to 20 mins, and have supported senior students as they prepare for their end of year exams. Equipping and empowering girls is also important as girls education is not generally valued in this part of Malawi, so we provide PSHE type lessons for them as well as resources.
Next projects include building teacher housing for 2 new female members of staff and providing more desks for years 2-3. If you'd like more information on how you could be further involved please email Sara at info@hope4malawi.org.
Every £ makes a difference as together we can help change the future for some of the poorest children in the world. Thank you.
