Story
CURE Ethiopia urgently needs your help.
The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions means the hospital is facing acute and urgent challenges in its ability to serve children with treatable disabilities.
Children with disabilities in Ethiopia are some of the most vulnerable children in the world, and they are currently facing increased barriers to the treatment they so desperately need. CURE estimates that there are 2.5 million children with treatable disabilities, and just ten paediatric surgeons in Ethiopia.
CURE Ethiopia already fills a gaping need for paediatric orthopaedic services in Ethiopia as there is no other dedicated facility in the country, and now elective surgical services at government hospitals have been postponed.
Thankfully CURE Ethiopia is able to continue safely offering life changing surgeries, but we've had to make adjustments. Social distancing means we've extended our waiting area outside (pictured) and we can't admit as many patients at one time as we used to be able to. Also protections for patients and staff mean the cost per patient has risen. Unfortunately this means the hospital's waiting list is getting longer and longer.
Currently, CURE Ethiopia has more than 4,000 children waiting for treatment.
Many of these children have already been waiting years for surgeries and procedures that will change their lives. Some will wait even longer because of the pandemic. Together, we can make sure their wait ends soon.
To help our partner; CURE Ethiopia, we are looking to raise £20,000 to help reduce the wait list. These crucial funds will provide life-changing surgeries for 20 children, and will support CURE Ethiopia in its ability to provide hope and healing to children with correctable disabilities, during these uncertain times.
It costs just £1,000 to provide a life-changing operation at CURE Ethiopia. Please, if you can, make a gift today, and help us end the wait for a child who has already been waiting too long.
