Story

The College of Health, Education, and Social Welfare (CHESW) transforms communities through its well-prepared nurses, social workers, teachers, First Nations specialists, community health educators, health information professionals, and graduate and doctoral students in various programs. Graduates stay in the region to fill critical workforce needs and improve the health and wellness of individuals and families. Most UW-Green Bay graduates stay in Wisconsin (86%).

We’re preparing professionals to teach your children and/or grandchildren, help you navigate a health condition, deliver crisis interventions in the community and so much more. Students in the College of Health, Education and Social Welfare (CHESW) receive a transformative education that prepares them to meet the demands of today’s workforce. By developing a broader worldview and nurturing vital skills, they contribute in meaningful ways for their communities and create positive change.

Join in supporting the CHESW scholarships. By donating, you'll help provide opportunities for students, which in turn helps our community—they're the future of health, education, First Nations and social welfare systems in our communities. Donating to scholarships for undergraduate teachers, nurses, social workers, and First Nations specialists is a powerful investment in the future. Here are five compelling reasons why an individual should consider supporting these scholarships:

1. Strengthening Essential Professions – Teachers, nurses, social workers, and First Nations specialists provide critical services that support education, health, and community well-being. Scholarships help attract and retain dedicated individuals in these fields, ensuring a strong and skilled workforce.

2. Reducing Financial Barriers – Many students pursuing these professions face financial difficulties, and scholarships alleviate the burden of tuition, allowing them to focus on their studies rather than accumulating debt. This leads to a more diverse and passionate workforce.

3. Enhancing Community Impact – By investing in these fields, donors directly contribute to stronger schools, improved healthcare, and more effective social services. First Nations specialists, in particular, play a crucial role in preserving and revitalizing Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions.

4. Addressing Workforce Shortages – There is a growing demand for professionals in education, healthcare, and social work. Scholarships encourage more students to enter these careers, helping to fill critical gaps and improve services in underserved areas.

5. Creating a Ripple Effect – Supporting one student has long-term benefits, as these professionals go on to positively influence hundreds, if not thousands, of lives throughout their careers. Their work supports individuals, families, and entire communities, making donations to scholarships a high-impact form of philanthropy.
