Story
There is a strong possibility that you or someone you know has been touched by cancer. Did you know that men have a one in two chance of developing cancer in their lifetime and women have a one in three chance? In 2021, the Dartmouth Cancer Center at Cheshire Medical Center provided cancer care to more than 2,600 patients. For these patients and MJ, you can make a difference today.
For Mary Jane (MJ) Doody, the odds became a reality when she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Her family has a history of the disease; MJ's cancer is the same type that her mother fought.
There weren't any lumps or bumps," MJ says. "They found it during my annual mammogram. And then suddenly I found myself with a cancer counselor, going for a biopsy, and then meeting my surgeon, Dr. Burman, at Cheshire's Breast Center."
Following a lumpectomy, MJs recovery is going well. She and her team of care providers anticipate that after radiation treatments, which will eradicate any remaining cancer cells, she will be declared cancer-free.
For the past 13 years, MJ has been integral to Cheshire's fundraising efforts in support of patients receiving treatment at the Medical Center's Norris Cotton Cancer Center - Kingsbury Pavilion.
I am most inspired by the giving. What people need to understand is how important it is to participate. The amount you give isn't what matters, just the fact that you join in, " MJ says.
