Story
As this year's Charles Wood Festival will be a mixture of live and digital events, we have decided to use this opportunity to create the first ever professional recording of the Charles Wood Singers. This is an ambitious project, and we need your help to make it a reality!
The 22 singers will be recorded for Regent Records at St. Patricks Church of Ireland Cathedral, Armagh. Conducted by our Artistic Director David Hill and accompanied by Festival Organist Philip Scriven, the recording will be of the highest possible standard. The album will be made available through physical CD release and on streaming platforms, and will not only help to raise awareness of Charles Wood and his diverse contemporaries, but will also help to support our work in the future.
Wood's compositions will of course play a central role in the album. However, some of his works will appear in new arrangements, delivering world premiere recordings. The Irish Composer Charles Villiers Stanford preceded Wood as Professor of Music at Cambridge University, so his music will be included. Another first-time recording will come with The Canticle of the Sun by the American visionary, Amy Beach. The full track list for the recording is as follows:
Stanford: Magnificat a 8
Stanford: Eternal Father
Wood: Expectans expectavi
Wood: It Were My Soul's Desire (capitals)
Wood (constructed Philip Moore): O Thou The Central Orb*
Wood: Nunc Dimittis
Beach: Canticle of the Sun*
Beach: Bonum est confiteri (Psalm 92)
Beach: Deus misereatur (Psalm 67)
