The new St. John's Church building is making excellent progress and is intended to be open to the public later in 2023. We are delighted to be welcoming old and new community groups into the building which will have outstanding facilities for local use.
When the old building was demolished everything inside was carefully packed away for storage. However many of the chairs were over 25 years old and showed substantial signs of wear. Additionally, they were not able to be stacked, and the design of the new church means that it is not possible to have them lined up against all the walls as before. So those chairs had to go, but we did keep the chairs with arms purchased more recently, and the plastic cushioned chairs (around 30 chairs in total).
The new chair chosen is from Alpha Furniture (www.alpha-furnishing.com) and is used in many other churches and halls. It is lightweight, comfortable and easily stackable (on a dolley shown in the picture). A sample chair is currently available to see (and sit on!) at the back of Christ Church, along with sample fabrics.
The chairs come with a 10 year guarantee and our intention is to purchase 75 of them (plus three dolleys) in time for the commissioning service by Bishop Alan (currently scheduled for 18 May). The cost of each chair is £80 inc VAT (each dolley is £275 inc VAT). With the retained chairs, we will then be able to seat over 100 people at St. John's Church for services and community events.
Might a chair be your Lenten or Easter gift to the church?
All donations (to Radlett Parochial Church Council) will be very gratefully received.
Thank you.
