Story
Ceylon Cricket Foundation is a UK based registered charity which seeks to provide cricketing opportunities to children in Sri Lanka in areas which are under equipped and underfunded.
Whilst in England, we are fortunate to have great school facilities and village clubs in abundance, access to cricket for youngsters in Sri Lanka is much harder. To be able to play there, you must be fortunate enough to be in a well-funded school with existing facilities; the majority of schools however do not have this; of the 9,936 schools nationwide, only 602 of these currently have cricket facilities (6.1%). Therefore, of the 2.1million male school children across Sri Lanka, only 41,160 of these have access to cricket in their school (2.0%). These youngsters play on street corners and beaches, but lack the structure and facilities and basic equipment to pursue any opportunities.
So far we have helped over 64 schools in the last 4 years by providing kit, clothing and basic equipment to help them play the game we all love. With this project we are aiming high and we are wanting to create a cricket playing environment (not just kit) in 20 Sri Lankan schools where there currently isnt one, and thus giving 1000+ children a structured cricketing opportunity.
