How your support makes a difference:
The Catholic Children's Society is a charity helping local vulnerable children and families. We work to support children as early as possible so they can overcome the challenges they face and go on to achieve their potential. We do this through our mental health services, family centres and emergency grants for families in crisis.
One of the children we've been able to help recently is Maya. Earlier this year, Maya's school noticed that her school uniform had begun to smell and her hair looked like it had not been washed in weeks. The school spoke to Maya's mother and discovered that the family's boiler had broken. Maya's mother worked a minimum wage job and was already struggling with the rising costs of living. There was no way she could afford the boiler repairs, so the family had been living without hot water and were unable to wash or clean their clothes properly.
Through our Crisis Fund, we helped pay for the boiler repairs and Maya's mother got in touch to say thank you. She said:
We were so desperate and had nowhere to turn to for help. I take pride in getting by and providing for my daughter, but this was so unexpected and such a big cost . . . It would have taken me over a year to save enough and I was very worried about getting through winter. Thank you so much for helping us.
