Kitten season is a term used to describe the time of year when cats will predominantly give birth. Although cats can breed any time of year if unneutered, in rescue we see a higher increase in kittens during the summer months through to early Autumn.
Unfortunately, unneutered cats are a national crisis, and this season has been the worst that rescues have seen in years. In the space of one week, we took in 13 kittens and several young mums who were all in desperate situations .
Due to the situations the cats were in, we could not in good conscience turn around and say no, so have had staff working around the clock, fostering and being up at all hours for feeding. Mentally and physically, a lot of our staff are exhausted and now we’ve reached a new problem.
Due to the unprecedented number of cats suddenly in our care, all at similar ages – we find ourselves in a situation where we need your help. The vet bills for all cats, from flea and worming to spay and neutering is substantial. We cannot manage this cost alone and are currently drowning under the weight of all the kittens that need our care. It is quite literally… a Cat-astrophe!
So, now more than ever we are appealing for your help.
Please consider donating to give help to cats like Luna, not much more than a kitten herself who arrived with her four kittens after her owner was evicted out onto the streets, with no place to take them.
Give help to kittens like Newt, Hagrid, Myrtle, and Hermione who were brought in by a vet at 2 weeks old, after a family found them, fearing the mother had abandoned her kittens.
Help to cats like Taylor, who at 11 months old, was found pregnant and wandering the streets. Her body being so small and young, only two out of her four kittens survived birth.
Give help to cats like Honey and her four kittens who were living flea ridden, in a downstairs toilet and were dropped at the centre in an airtight container, with no holes for breathing.
If you are able to help in any capacity at all, we would be most grateful.
***29/09/23 UPDATE***
Thank you everyone so much for your incredible support! With the extra funds raised, we've been able to support three more kittens that have arrived under emergency care.
Mandu and Astrophe (named after Cat-astrophe) arrived this week after being found abandoned in a field.
We've also been able to take in Milly, who was abandoned at the vets after her tail had to be amputated.
