Every cartwheel starts with momentum—and that’s exactly what we’re building in the fight against leukaemia. Thanks so much for joining us.
We’re calling on the nation to “Cartwheel for a Cure”.
Following treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), Lucy Musgrave OBE began doing a cartwheel every day to celebrate life and recovery.
Now, she’s hoping to inspire you to join her by supporting this national campaign, which aims to raise £200,000 to fund vital research into kinder, more effective treatments for AML.
“My commitment has been to do a cartwheel every day wherever I am and now I want people to join me, whether it’s cartwheeling or any other daily joyful movement of positivity to help raise money so others don’t have to go through what I did." - Lucy Musgrave OBE
It'll support research into better, kinder treatments for AML.
AML is a particularly aggressive type of leukaemia, a form of blood cancer. Every year almost 3,100 people in the UK are diagnosed with AML yet its survival rates are among the worst of any cancer type.
The money raised in this campaign will go directly to fund research into AML.

On 9 September 2021, Lucy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), a fast growing, aggressive blood cancer which needs urgent treatment.
“The consultant said it was his job to ensure I made it to my 80s or 90s but if we didn’t start treatment straight away, I wouldn’t make it to Christmas.” Said Lucy.
Lucy was given blood transfusions and began intensive chemotherapy within days, spending six months in and out of hospital during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lucy completed her in-patient treatment in March 2022 and began a year of maintenance therapy. Her sister Celia, a near-perfect stem cell match, had been lined up as a donor, but incredibly a transplant wasn’t needed, and Lucy is now in remission.
The experience of her shock diagnosis and recovery, and her determination to hold on to the positive energy, has spurred Lucy to spearhead an incredible fundraising drive.
“I dived straight into the sea and when I came out, I did 12 cartwheels on the beach—one for each month of that my year of survival. terrible year. That moment of joy sparked something.”
Since January 2023, Lucy has performed a cartwheel every day and this month has completed her 1,000th cartwheel. The milestone marks the launch of Cartwheel for a Cure to raise funds for lifesaving leukaemia research and help those diagnosed in the future.
