Ostomates need fellow ostomates. On Giving Tuesday, donate and share this important "Share to Care" fundraiser for UOAA's Conference Attendee Reimbursement of Expenses Scholarship (CARES). This scholarship helps first-time UOAA Conference attendees defray costs associated with travel and accommodation expenses (up to $1,000 per recipient).
It was wonderful to know (and to really see) that I am NOT alone. - Gail Jasne, 2019 CARES Recipient
Have you attended UOAA's National Conference in the past? If so, do you remember your first experience - the feeling that you were with your people? With your help fellow ostomates or patients in need can experience this same feeling for the first time.
UOAA's National Conference will take place in Houston on August 10-12, 2023. Registration opens on January 1st, 2023. Consider making a gift on Giving Tuesday to Bring a New Ostomy Friend You Haven't Met Yet to the 2023 National Conference as well as support UOAA's programs and services. Please donate to help us make this life-changing experience available to more people. Help an ostomate discover their people!
Other past (CARES) receipients shared what the opportunity to attend meant to them.
The positive atmosphere allowed each of us to openly share our own life experiences with others while achieving substantial personal growth from the sharing by others. -Phil Moyle
The green ribbon attached to my nametag indicated that it was my first time at a UOAA conference and acted as a beacon for people to introduce themselves to me and to make sure that I had a place to sit at their table instead of following my instinct to hide in a corner to observe the goings on of the people buzzing around me. Before I knew it, the leader of the Young Adults group invited me to join them on social excursions, I volunteered at the registration desk, and had one on one time with some of the heroes of the ostomy community. -Phuong Gallagher
