Story
The Sudan Crisis
A year on from its start, the conflict in Sudan has forced millions of people to flee their homes and they are now facing yet another crisis – hunger.
At least 25 million Sudanese need immediate, emergency help. Families are already going hungry and famine is looming. This crisis threatens to become the worst in living memory”. (Telley Sadia, CAFOD’s Country Representative for Sudan)
CAFOD's summer pilgrimage project provides an opportunity to pray for the desperate situation in Sudan whilst raising vital funds to help avert a humanitarian disaster
How you can help?
Whether or not you are able to participate in one of the summer pilgrimages you can still play your part by praying for us or by sponsoring a pilgrim:
• £5 can provide clean water to a family
• £22 can provide essential medicine and hygiene kits
• £40 can provide emergency shelter for a refugee family
• £50 can provide emergency food packages
The Big Pilgrimage
The Big Pilgrimage is the local pilgrimage experience where participants decide where they go and how far they walk. We have three venues:
01/06: St George's Cathedra;, Southwark
22/06: Ampleforth Abbey, York
06/07: Cathedral of Our Lady and St Thomas, Northampton
At each venue, participants can decide whether to join a longer group pilgrimage (5 - 6 miles), a family friendly walk (2 - 3 miles) or to create their own customised pilgrimage experience. Venues will provide a warm welcome and hospitality, space for prayer and reflection and an opportunity to engage with our values of hope, justice and mercy.
Young Adults Residential Pilgrimage
Over the weekend of the 12th - 14th July, CAFOD is leading a group of young adults on a 13.5 mile pilgrimage from the picturesque village of Olney to The Church of the Holy Child in Bedford. This unique spiritual challenge combines faith and action, carving out time to reinvigorate your relationship with God whilst raising vital funds for life-saving aid in Sudan. As the Chinese proverb says 'When you pray, move your feet'.
