Story
Have you got stacks of CDs or DVDs that haven't been used in years, or a
bookshelf full of books that are taking up loads of room? Perhaps your wardrobe
is overflowing with old clothes, and you want to make room for what you actually
wear but dont want to contribute to fast fashion? If any of this sounds like you,
then you're in the right place!
For the month of March, the British Youth Council are running our first-ever 'Big
Clear-Out fundraising campaign. You can support our work to uplift the voices of
young people by selling your old and used stuff and donating a percentage (or
all!) of the proceeds to our Big Clear-Out JustGiving page. Whether you choose to
attend a car boot sale, host a clothes swap party amongst friends, or sell your
old stuff on platforms such as Depop, Vinted or Ziffit, the funds you raise can go
a long way towards ensuring that young people's voices are heard.
The fashion industry accounts for 10% of global CO2 emissions every year (IPCC)
and uses around 1.5 trillion litres of water annually. Fast fashion also fuels global
over-consumption and is notorious for its poor working conditions. In keeping
with our campaigns to reduce waste and protect the planet we all call home, this
challenge demonstrates how fundraising and sustainability can go hand in hand.
By signing up, you'll receive a bespoke fundraising pack, where you'll find all the
information you need for your Clear-Out, including some simple instructions,
ideas and tips on how to best thrift your unwanted stuff and
#DeclutterToDonate.
Freeing up space in your home for the stuff you actually need, all whilst
supporting your favourite charity. How cool is that? Join us in our initiative to
reduce the harmful effects of fast fashion and waste pollution to create a positive
environmental impact!
