Story
"Get on Board" funding our Mobile PSA Testing Clinic appeal to give men a better chance of beating prostate cancer by catching it early. 12,000 men a year die from Prostate Cancer in the UK. 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer, increasing to 1 in 4 for Black men. If detected early, prostate cancer is usually curable.
Working in partnership with the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance, we need to raise £200,000 to purchase and kit out a Mobile PSA Blood Testing Clinic via our 'Buy-a-Ticket' Appeal.
The 'Bus' as it is being affectionately named, will provide a high-profile mobile point of access to allow more men to get the PSA blood test used to help detect prostate cancer, reaching high risk groups and communities as well as helping to address the shortfall of over 3,000 men remaining untested due to COVID restrictions.
Since January, we have enough money towards our £200,000 target to place an order for a 3.5 ton, ice-white back to back cab Boxer Van. The Man-Van needs to be kitted out with the finest testing equipment, computers and software, so we still need the funds to contribute to the running costs, paying the salaries of nurses and drivers for the first twelve months of operation.
The Mobile Clinic will:
* Be fully equipped to perform 8,000 PSA tests a year
* Be fully self contained with dedicated team of NHS nurses, healthcare assistants and drivers.
* Operate out of regular hours and on Saturdays. And will relieve burden on GPs .
* Target vulnerable, high risk and difficult to access communities. Men aged 50-70, black men, and those with a family history of prostate cancer
Thank you for your support. Together we are giving men a better chance of beating prostate cancer.
