Story
Following years of drought massive rainfall has flooded Nairobi and some of the worst devistation is in the slums where thousands are vulnerable. Brainhouse School which looks after orphans and provides education, food and dignity to many children has been hit badly. The Headteacher says
"We are not doing well. We have lost everything to the floods. Everything which was on the ground floor was submerged in the flood water. This includes all food items in the store, bedding for the students, our text books, computers, sports equipment and attire, laboratory facilities, laboratory chemicals, our office, kitchen. Form 4 block wall collapsed with the weight of the water.
The loss is so huge that we don’t know how to cope or whether we will be able to open the school.
Thank God though that no teacher or student got injured or lost their lives"
A week after the floods and the water is beginning to subside revealing huge damage. Walls were damaged beyond repair and have been demolished, books and student belongings lie scattered where the swirling water left them, £4000 worth of food stocks have been ruined and looters have entered the school and removed batteries for the solar panels, leaving no light in the school and have taken gass bottles from the kitchens.
Please help us in any way to rebuild the school. We need £4000 to replace food, £800 to replace solar batteries, £3000 to rebuild walls, £500 for mattresses and much more. Your help is needed and we thank everyone who has contributed so far.
