The University of Illinois Habitat for Humanity campus chapter will be hosting their third annual Build-A-Thon Event on Saturday, March 27th from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM on the South Quad. Build-a-Thon (BAT) is a one-of-a-kind fundraising and advocacy event. In the month leading up to the event, teams of up to 5 students will race to raise as much money as possible for our student chapter and local Champaign County Habitat affiliate. On Saturday, March 27th, all of the teams will come together to build the wildest, innovative, and structurally sound shacks. The more your team raises, the more materials and supplies you receive to build! Shacks will be judged on multiple criteria (i.e. creativity, structural stability, aesthetic). Prizes for the best shacks and the most funds raised will be awarded! Food and entertainment will be provided throughout the event.

This event is meant to fundraise for the Champaign County Habitat for Humanity and to raise awareness for the need of affordable and accessible housing. Plus, due to matching grants provided by State Farm and a private donor, every dollar donated will be TRIPLED! All proceeds will go towards our $10,000 goal to build a student-sponsored Habitat home in our community this year. No experience is necessary and all materials and tools will be provided. All COVID guidelines and restrictions will be followed. A recent negative Safer Illinois test will be required. Non-university students are encouraged to sign up as well as long as they can provide a recent negative test (within 4 days of the event) or proof of both vaccination rounds.
