Story
Welcome to The Bronte, your place to be inspired, become empowered and be yourself.
This is your opportunity to be part of the regeneration of Liverpool and help our wonderful youth and community centre keep changing lives in Merseyside. Be a part of the Bronte Big Build.
We’re the only community centre in Liverpool's city centre and our immediate area is one of the most deprived in the country, ranking 4th out of 317 local authorities that are most deprived in England (2019).
So we were over the moon when we raised over 3 million pounds to transform our building, bringing vibrant new spaces and exciting opportunities just a stone’s throw from Lime Street station. But soaring inflation has made our building costs spiral. And it’s really important that we don’t scale back our plans. With your help we can make sure we build a better Bronte - one that’s ambitious, environmentally sustainable and economically self-sufficient, so it can stand on its own two feet. Your donations will also allow us to scale up and extend our services beyond the city centre to reach the entire city region, reaching hundreds more people in need of our support.
At The Bronte, you'll find kids crafting, older kids doing martial arts, parents laughing over coffee and people picking up brand new skills. People come to us for youth clubs, children’s activities, school holiday playschemes and residentials, as well as practical support, welfare advice and so much more.
We are now calling on the community, businesses and supporters in our city to help raise funds and give Merseyside the community hub it deserves.
Your donations will help us do all this:
Fixtures and fittings
Joinery that will make the Bronte a place businesses will want to make their home and kids will begrudgingly admit is “quite cool”.
Provide audio and visual equipment
The speakers, audio, screens and lighting systems we need to host events, conferences and children’s digital events.
Create rentable office space
Help fit out modern workspaces, so we can bring in regular monthly income to subsidise our youth and community services, giving even more children the access to amazing adventures and ensuring no young person is left behind.
Fit out our kitchen
So we can host nutritional workshops for the community, coffee and cake mornings and generate income by providing professional catering services for conferences, events and parties.
Generate our own energy
With environmentally sustainable solar panels that help keep the bills down.
Sattam, 12 years old, shares his experience of The Bronte’s youth club: "Before I came here, I was sad and depressed but as soon as I went to the Bronte, it made my life way better. Football, skating and the whole team."
Jess, 14 years old, said "We'll soon be able to play in the garden, we've not been able to do that for years."
Sustainability
When we say we want the new Bronte to be “sustainable” we’re not just talking about its environmental impact. Yes, that’s very important and eco-friendliness has been built into our plans. But the long-term economic sustainability of the Bronte is too.
We want our wonderful building to be serving Merseyside for decades to come. So, we need it to be able to generate enough income to become completely self-sufficient. And that’s only going to be possible with your help. Your donations will help us fit out our office spaces so we can rent them out to businesses, create great social rooms that we can rent out for events, and help us put solar panels on the roof that will slash our electricity bills.
Laura Cain, Centre manager said: "This really is the stuff of dreams for the Bronte and our Community. Over the years, I watched as my mum struggled, year after year to raise funds and fight to keep the Bronte alive. This renovation work on our building is beyond anything we could have envisaged for the Bronte, and the impact it is going to have on our young people and not only the local, but wider community, is immeasurable. I am so excited, proud and privileged to be a part of this, and to see the Bronte thrive once again."
