Story

Thank you for visiting our page!

We are Brislington Welcome, a group of neighbours based in South Bristol who are working together to bring a refugee family to our area, because no-one should have to risk their lives to find a safe place to call home.

This will be done through the government's Community Sponsorship programme, as well as under the guidance of the Home Office, in cooperation with Bristol City Council, and in partnership with the national charity The Pickwell Foundation, our lead sponsors.

We know that Brislington is a great place for a family to build a new life, so we have committed to raise funds, find and furnish affordable (private) accommodation, and to help the family to settle in when they arrive. From the moment the family land at the airport, Brislington Welcome will support them for at the least the next two years. This will include assistance with language learning, support with finding schools and navigating the health system, and orientation to the city of Bristol and to life in the UK.

The family will be selected by the UNHCR and the Home Office from a refugee camp. This is based on their level of need and is determined by a number of factors (including extreme vulnerability of at least one member of the family). The Home Office conducts careful screening before they are granted leave to enter in the UK.

Please help us give a family a safe route to a new life.

Donations will be paid into the account of The Pickwell Foundation, with funds for Brislington Welcome being ring-fenced.

NB: we have been fundraising for some time, previously with another lead sponsor, and have added our current total as an offline donation.

About the charity

We are a charity working to promote and provide community led welcome for displaced people. Our aim is to provide the type of friendship and practical support that anyone would hope to have if they were forced, under such circumstances, to start over in a new and unfamiliar place.
